Today I completed three small drop point hunting blades. these I have made out of D-2 steel. I find that this steel has the best edge holding capacity of the steel available here in New Zealand. I have used 440c steel in the past but the cost is prohibitive & in MHO 440C has not got the edge holding capacity of D-2. I use Pakka wood, Nz hardwoods and deer antler for my handles. My pins and guards are brass. i have the patterns for mosaic pins which I am experementing with.

Wow John, you do some great work. Glad to see there are some other knife makers about in New Zealand.
Kind regards
